In 2007 I rescued an eight week old White Shepherd wolf mix. I was 14 years old and a friend of mine was fostering her for a local human society. She was just a tiny white puff ball with ears. The first time I picked her up, she peed all over the front of my vest – it was right then that I knew it was love. I named her Akeela, after the wolf dog who raised Mowgli in the Jungle Book.

On March 16, 2020 Akeela was diagnosed with bone cancer. It was the most heartbreaking and devastating experience I had ever been through. I was completely clueless and had no idea what to expect or how to prepare. I originally started journaling so that I could keep track of her progress and so I could have a therapeutic outlet. I decided to make a blog with the hope that our story can help others who may face the same unfortunate fate that we did.
